Hoods Lagoon Site Analysis
August 11, 2022
Hoods Lagoon, located on the northern side of Clermont, holds both historical and recreational significance. Once the original township of Clermont, the site was relocated to higher ground in 1906 following successive devastating floods. Today, Hoods Lagoon is a key recreational destination for both the local community and tourists, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage.
The site features a popular self-guided walking tour that highlights the town’s history, including flood and war memorials, and is bordered by three parks: Ivan Bettridge Park, Pioneer Park, and Centenary Park.
Scope of Analysis
Wall Planning & Environmental Consulting was engaged by the Isaac Regional Council to deliver a comprehensive site analysis as the foundation for a future Master Plan.
The site analysis included:
- Historical and cultural significance of the site
- Key owners, users, and community stakeholders
- Alignment with the planning scheme and council’s corporate plan
- Audit of existing facilities and infrastructure
- Opportunities and constraints for future development
- Analysis of trends influencing recreational use and tourism appeal
Outcome
The site analysis provided Council with clear insights into the strengths and challenges of Hoods Lagoon, supporting informed decision-making on future upgrades and revitalisation efforts. This work will ensure Hoods Lagoon continues to be a valued recreational, cultural, and tourism asset for Clermont and the wider Isaac region for generations to come.
