The Importance of Using a Registered Planner
Is Your Planner Registered?
As many know, or soon discover, building on or developing purchased land is not as
straightforward as identifying its zoning.
Local, state and federal government bodies have regulations and requirements in place
specific to each piece of land in Australia that must be met for development to go ahead.
On top of standard regulations, issues with the development can lead to needing a variety of
other consultants and providing for their requirements
Having a registered planner that can act on your behalf through the applications as well as
development issues is essential for maximising the chances of the development getting off
the ground … and reducing your stress!
But why registered? What’s the difference?
Put simply – Quality.
Essentially, a person straight out of University is a Planner. They have the degree and
studies to go forth and start their career. However, there is so much more to providing a
quality service than having the required degree.
A Registered Planner must have five years professional experience before being assessed
by the Planning Institute of Australia for registration. Registration with PIA comes with a
- High levels of integrity and professionalism
- A proven ability to use spatial thinking and interpret complex data
- A creative and integrative approach to problem solving
- A proven ability to develop and apply technical knowledge
- Advanced collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
- An applied understanding of how to work within planning frameworks
- A commitment to continuing professional development
What do all these skills provide the developer?
A registered planner has the experience, knowledge, networks and professional support to
be able to provide a high level, efficient service to the developer.
They have the knowledge and experience to provide timely and concise reporting on the
regulations that affect your development, the issues that are anticipated, how these issues
can be addressed, and who are the best contractors to deal with those issues.
From the start of development to completion.
